Welcome to the TSS website.  I am a software developer/web programmer with nearly 10 years experience in the industry.  After working for various companies over the years, and doing consulting on a part-time basis for most of that time, I am trying my hand at throwing myself more fully into my consulting business.

Right now I am experimenting with an open-source Content Management System for creating websites known as DotNetNuke.  It's based on Microsoft's "DotNet" technology (hence the name), suffixed by "Nuke" which has become a standard name for these type of open-source initiatives.

So far I am impressed, but the technology is still in the early phases.  My concern is that with the evoloving technology, work done in the current version might not work in newer versions, or the upgrade path might be too difficult to make it worth while.

Still, the technology seems promising.  I like the fact that it's (almost) easy enough to use so that you can hand off content management to the client and not have to do anything.

A couple of items prevent of from truely being a hands-off solution for the developer once in the client's hands:

1. Better WYSIWYG editor.  I'd like an editor that allows inserting if a link based on a dropdown of all pages in the website, rather than having to construct the link manually.
2. Embedded "modules".  What if I want to drop an "Image" module directly into the middle of a "HTML/Text" module?
3. Better image support.  Maybe the ability to resize images or auto-thumbnail images might be good.
4. Shopping Cart.  There is a Shopping Cart application for DNN, and it looks promising, but it's still in Beta.
5. Core modules versus Add-Ons.  Right now there is a finite set of core modules and many third party modules available.  I'd like to see a clear separation between the core modules and the third party ones.  I say this because there should be some definite support for the core modules, including support for upgrading to newer versions without losing content.
6. Better IDE support.  I'd like better support for VS and WebExpress for developing DNN modules.
